djingWhat we have outlined so far are the absolute basics for a DJ equipment set arrangement however there are option extras that can be added to improve on the system. Electronic effects units such as delay, reverb, octave equalizer and chorus are all effects that can be manipulated using new technology and changing the sound of the music.

Computerized performance systems which we have discussed as a new wave of DJ equipment now come with a variety of effects packagers which can be used with timecoded and encoded vinyl and CD to manipulate the sounds giving the DJ the option to play a chorus repeatedly over another track. Other items that could be implemented in a set could be live instruments or samplers and drum machines to add even more effects to the existing tracks.

A very specialized area of DJ’ing in known as turntabilism and utilizes not only the knowledge, style and technique of the DJ but has specialist equipment designed to enable them to produce a variety of effects and sounds a standard DJ would not be able to do. Turntabilism itself is considered almost an art form and uses cutting, beat juggling, scratching, needle drops, phase shifting, back spinning and other techniques that need unique equipment to cope with the demands the DJ will want.

The realm of DJ equipment has its standard basic tools but also has fast expanding optional choices to enable the DJ and his equipment to give the sound he wants to his audience.
